As part of its mission, the Institute sponsors seminars that bring together practitioners, policymakers, and researchers to discuss current ideas, concerns, and findings relating to educational policies and practices that are relevant to New York City and the region.

In each seminar, an author or policymaker presents an idea or finding, followed by a broader discussion among seminar participants. Presenters include local as well as national scholars and practitioners. Previous topics addressed include funding of schools in large districts, teacher merit pay plans, choice in schooling (including charter schools), accountability in education, and alternative teacher training programs.
