Barbara Gross

Barbara Gross provides strategic support and capacity-building to education justice organizing groups, coalitions, and unions seeking to increase community engagement, across the country.  Prior to coming to the NYU Metro Center, Barbara served as a principal associate in Community Organizing and Engagement at the Annenberg Institute for School Reform (AISR). She has been an organizer, trainer, facilitator, and technical assistance provider to education justice organizations and coalitions for over twenty years,  Barbara helped to found the Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools (AROS), a national network of youth, community organizing groups and labor unions, joining forces in the fight for equity and high quality public schools for all.  Before joining AISR, she was a senior project director at NYU's Institute for Education and Social Policy, co-founder and co-director of Mothers on the Move (MOM) in the Bronx, and a long-time ACORN organizer. Barbara has four children, one currently in NYC public schools. She has a degree in Education and Social Policy from Cornell University.
