Archangelo Joseph, before joining the New York State Language RBERN in 2015, had been working for New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) for 30 years in various capacities. He began his education career as a teacher-intern within the NYCDOE Bilingual Pupils Services program and became a bilingual teacher at Community School District 22 in the mid-1990’s. He then served as a Resource Specialist within the Office of Curriculum & Instruction at the central Office of Bilingual Education. Upon leaving that office, he was hired as the Math Coach and then Assistant Principal at K-8 Public School 189 in Brooklyn. His passion for innovative instruction compelled him to shorten his school leadership in order to enroll in the doctoral program in Educational Leadership at Concordia University Chicago. His research dissertation centered on mathematics pedagogy among all students, particularly English language learners and the subgroup of Haitians. In March 2020 he earned his Doctor of Education degree after more than seven years of study. Dr. Joseph also holds a Master of Science in Education degree from City College of City University of New York, a School Administration & Supervision degree from College of Saint Rose in Albany, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from City College of City University of New York. In addition to English, the Haitian-born educator is proficient in two other languages: Haitian Creole and French.
