Metro's Scholar in Residence Publishes Timely Monograph

book imageMetro's Scholar in Residence, Dr. Laruth Gray, publishes a timely monograoh, "What About Barnard?". Sixty-five years after Brown, school intergration has become a hot topic. Reflecting on her past as a leader of school reorganization within the construct of minority isolation, in the late 70's-early 80's, Gray releases a process developed by the City School District of New Rochelle. She uses board minutes, articles, school district policy briefs and the results of court stenography to present a fact-based monograph. "While most of the literature on desegregation highlights what happened in the late 60s and early 70s, Gray captures another era--the late 70s to early 80s. Using her perspective as a former school administrator and lead on a desegregation effort you get to see the behind the scenes working of what it takes to produce racial balance in schools", states NYU Associate Professor of Sociology of Education L'Heureux Lewis-McCoy.
