Rachel Cole staff photoRachel Cole is a Research Associate at the Research Alliance for New York City Schools. She conducts quantitative research on projects related to educational equity, including formative and summative program evaluation. Dr. Cole contributes to a number projects for the Research Alliance, including Design2Learn, CS4All, and iMentor. 

Prior to joining the Research Alliance, Dr. Cole lived in Sri Lanka, where she completed her dissertation, "Assessing Sri Lanka's Free Education Scheme: Equity, Private Expenditures and Tutoring from 1985 to 2010". She also worked as a Senior Research Associate at the NYC Department of Education and led several programs, including Universal Literacy, Algebra for All, and Middle School Quality Initiative. Previously, Dr. Cole was an IES-PIRT Fellow at the Research Alliance and worked on studies of School of One, ARIS, and the NYC School Survey.  

Dr. Cole holds a Ph.D. in International Education from New York University. She also holds an M.S. in Educational Administration and Supervision from the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs (formerly the School of Public Affairs) at Baruch College, an M.S. in Middle Childhood Bilingual/Dual Language Education from Bank Street College of Education, and a B.A. in Economics and Anthropology from the University of Chicago.
