Meet three Steinhardt graduate students spending their summer gaining hands-on experience in their respective fields.
Jaejin Kim (MS in Applied Statistics)
Jaejin is interning at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government, which focuses on analyzing and supporting efforts to make institutions inclusive, effective, accountable, and well-equipped. In his role, Jaejin is working on automating survey response collection and analyzing survey data. In addition, Jaejin took part in developing educational online modules to help guide government officials understand the statistics and indices that the Division publishes.
Leona Ren (MA in Media, Culture, and Communication)
Leona is interning at BBC Studios, a commercial subsidiary of UK broadcaster British Broadcasting Corporation, on its Communication & Events team. Here, she is managing external publicity, as well as creating and implementing internal communications. In addition, Leona helps coordinate events that increase diversity and inclusion within the company and is gaining knowledge on the different roles and opportunities within an international media company.
Kaitlin Valdez (MS in Communicative Sciences and Disorders)
Kaitlin is completing her fieldwork at NYU Langone Brooklyn as a speech-language pathology intern in the acute rehabilitation unit. In this position, she works with patients with speech, language, cognitive, and/or swallowing difficulties secondary to strokes, brain injuries, and various other diagnoses. Through this fieldwork experience, she hopes to gain more exposure and expand her knowledge and clinical skillset as a medically-based speech-language pathologist in the neurologic rehabilitation of individuals across the lifespan.
