On January 25, 2018, IHDSC celebrated its 10th anniversary with an event titled Imagining the Future of Urban Education and Mental Health: Putting Research to Work for Children, Families, and Communities. This video highlights three “On the Ground” presentations.
First, Chantal Hailey (IES-PIRT fellow and doctoral candidate in Sociology, GSAS) discusses her research on school choice and school segregation.
Next, Dr. Michah Rothbart (Assistant Professor of Public Administration and International Affairs, Syracuse University, and alumnus of IES-PIRT and NYU Wagner) asks us to consider the social roles that schools play in children’s lives outside of instruction.
Finally, Dr. Shabnam Javdani (Assistant Professor of Applied Psychology, Steinhardt) imagines a future “where it is simply not an option for systems to detain kids struggling with mental health or educational challenges.”
