On August 24, 2017 the NYU Steinhardt Doctor of Physical Therapy class of 2017 graduated after three years of dedicated study and clinical experiences. The annual ceremony was held in the NYU Steinhardt Frederick Loewe Theater, and welcomed family and friends of the graduates as well as faculty and staff of the Physical Therapy Department to celebrate the graduates great achievement.
The ceremony began with the procession of students and faculty led by traditional bagpipers. Department Chair and Associate Professor Mitchell Batavia gave a warm welcome and introduced the accomplished faculty members that helped guide the students along their journey to becoming physical therapists. Patricia M. Carey, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, gave a moving speech about inclusion and diversity to the graduates and their families; student speaker Yera Patel shared favorite memories of her time at NYU Steinhardt with the audience; and Clinical Assistant Professor Kevin Weaver delivered a heartfelt keynote address. The event rounded out with Clinical Associate Professor Elaine Becker who led the students in their Physical Therapy Oath, and Professor Tsega Mehreteab gave closing remarks upon her retirement from the department this year.
Many congratulations to the graduating DPT class of 2017, we wish them much success and welcome them as colleagues into the Physical Therapy profession.
